The Farewell

All my previous posts have been very light to heart but after writing a suspense thriller :D, I thought I should explore myself to writing something more dramatic; on the Ekta Kapoor(K Soaps in Indian TV) lines. I am taking the liberty considering that some friends do take my writing seriously these days... :-). I am trying my hand at writing an emotional scene. Happy (sad) reading.....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disclaimer
All events and characters in this piece are purely fictitious and Indian, any resemblance is purely co-incidental. Although quite a few of the female readers might have(or will) gone through this for sure. I am not sure how relevant the scene is in today's society though :-). Here it goes...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Random thoughts ran through her mind as the moment finally arrived. It was her farewell to her home, her dog, her house, her garden. "Why should this happen to a girl always?" she thought in a little anger. It was one of the biggest days of her life. She is getting married today to a person she loves. But the thought of leaving behind all those she loved and cared all these years was making her angry and disgusted from within.

The decorated car symbolizing a new decorated life was inches ahead of her. She was walking slowly towards it and her eyes searching for her mom in the crowd. She stood in front of her family thinking what to say and expect. Just at the spurt of the moment she ran towards her mom and clasped her in her arms and broke into tears. Her mom stood there, trying not to show too many emotions, but she knew she was crumbling from within. She tells her that she should be as good a daughter in her new home as she was hers. She took out a small wrapped packet from a bag she had been carrying around from the start of the ceremony and gives it to her.

"Open it" She said.

She unwraps the cover only to break into a big cry again, this time more inconsolably leaning on her mother. The packet had a family picture with all four of them dad, mom, brother and her together, when they had gone Kanyakumari some 18 yrs back. Her father had died 2 yrs earlier due to a heart failure. As she saw the photo through the tears in her eyes, she could see her father standing beside her mother having that ever radiant smile on his face.

"Wished you were here dad" her heart said.
"I am always with you my darling angel" A voice from within broke out. She stood there for a moment looking at her mom.

She saw her younger brother next to mom, she gave an inconsolable brother a soft slap on his cheek. "You dare take that table from my room. I am going to check with mom daily" She said trying to console him.
"No dear, those will always be yours, those will remind me of you when you are not here" the brother replied.

She looked back at her home, she wished from within if she could run towards it and jump on the sofa again. She wished she could snatch the paper from her father's hands when he is reading it in the morning. She wished, she could go and sleep even as her mom would scold her for not helping her in the kitchen. She wished, standing there that moment, she wished time would freeze...

She got into the car, even as the car sped along, she continued to look back till no one was in sight. She was assured that her new life promised a lot of happiness too. She was looking ahead to meet a new mom and "Dad". May be its God's way of giving her Dad back to her.
